Louisiana doesn’t get to be first for a lot of things, so I was very excited to find out that the American Society of Home Inspectors (ASHI) recently ranked our state #1 in the nation for our home inspection regulations. Why is this exciting? Because it means that the state is doing an excellent job of protecting the tax paying consumer!
Since January 1, 2001, the Louisiana legislature has required all persons
performing home inspections or claiming the title “home inspector” to be licensed by the state. The Louisiana State Board of Home Inspectors (LSBHI) governs all home inspectors throughout the state, ensuring that they are in compliance with industry guidelines and adhering to the the LSBHI Code of Ethics. If you have had a problem with a Louisiana home inspector that you have been unable to resolve, there are forms available on the Board’s website to make an official complaint.
Also available on the LSBHI website are list of frequently asked questions about home inspections and an online search for licensed inspectors in the state of Louisiana. Your REALTOR® remains your best resource for reliable, local home inspectors in your area.
If you are interested in becoming a licensed home inspector, see How to Get Licensed.

Well, congratulations Louisiana from your neighbor. Just to let you know Hawaii started licensing for home inspectors as of January 1 of this year. Some other states have been considering it, but ASHI members have been known to be against this.
